Day 36 - sunset hike in the Fells / February 5

Today, I worried that I'd enter the Fells uninspired to photograph anything interesting. I was wrong! The snow cover in combination with the falling sun presented a few good opportunities to capture some quiet moments out in the woods today.

Enjoy!

I was out for about an hour, but Strava failed to capture most of it. Oh well!

Day 35 - pushing through the snow around Horn Pond

Anita took me for a really nice walk around Horn Pond this morning.

We enjoyed a quiet stand of pine trees.

Watched some woodpeckers

And admired the view around Horn Pond

Day 34 - morning walk around New Jersey - ranting! February 3rd

My first rant today is about how well-to-do suburbs make it hard for their residents to get outside and be active. I am going to pick on Bridgewater Township, New Jersey, where I was yesterday on a business trip. I didn't take photos of the many iced over sections of sidewalk that were positively precarious. But here are some photos of what it was like to walk from my hotel (the Marriott Bridgewater) to the mall across the street.
People are supposed to walk on this?

This sidewalk needs to be cleared!
My second point of complaint is about how we recognize our service men and women in this country. Why do we have to put our history shamefully out of the way? While there was a beautiful bridge dedicated to Sergeant Lobosco from Bridgewater who gave his life for his country,  the plaque and bridge are so out of the way that I don't think anyone really looks at it. In Boston, I love how the Holocaust Memorial is front and center in people's experience as they go between Government Center and Faneuil Hall. Bridgewater could learn a lesson there.

Day 33 - February 2 - snowboarding on streets, hiking in the woods, and shoveling out from Nor'easter #2

There was another storm upon us, and snow was piling up so fast, you could actually snowboard on the streets about an hour after the plows came through. Unfortunately, it is deep and not so steep at home, but just being able to get out on the board at home is kind of fun. In addition to a little hiking in the woods, I attempted to help with shoveling at home. I got the driveway done and walkways done at separate times, and of course, they filled themselves right in with 4-5 inches of snow in just a couple of hours.

Day 32: Another cold one at Sugarbush - Feb 1

Today was a bit warmer, but still sunny at Sugarbush.

Day 20 of snowboarding for the season!

Day 31: cold but sunny skiing at Sugarbush - January 31

Wow, it was cold: -8 degrees to start the day!

But the sun was out, and it got a lot warmer - to 8 degrees!

Sun and views!

Day 30: more hike than bike January 30

Oops - the snow wasn't packed in enough to ride on Friday!
