Day 4 - January 4 - hiking to check out the 90mm missile site

Today, I was back at home, there were a few inches of very thick, slushy snow on the ground, and bike riding was definitely out of the question. So I decided to make a hike of it and head over the 90mm missile site near my house. It is amazing to think that this relic of the Cold War was close to our neighborhood!

The  missile site is a bit odd, because the concrete is just poured into these spots in the middle of the woods. There must have been more facility security back in the day, but there is no evidence of it. However, the launching pads are still present and obvious.

There is even a spot for storing the missiles that still exists and is apparently in pretty good shape.
