Fast friends, fiendish ice - Day 10 / 100 - January 10

Matt

Rob

Scott

I was reminded on today's ride that some of my friends stay very fit during the winter. Rob, Matt and Scott each took some hard turns at the front of today's ride, and I was having a hard time holding on for most of it. They are good friends, however, and allowed me to indulge in a few photographs of them in action.

The trails at Willowdale were covered with a thin layer of snow, and underneath this snow was a nasty layer of ice. Rob and I each managed to go down once on the ice, and I and was doing a lot of yelling at the back of the ride as my bike didn't exactly go where I pointed it. Scott and Rob managed to cross some ice paths that Matt and I chose to walk.

All in all, it was a good ride, but I had no strength at the very end. It definitely helps to get these early season January outings under the belt - they will help come springtime!

Here is the Strava log. I am not a big fan of this "2015 Strava bling". It is very lame, and makes you look fast at the beginning of the year. Even if you're not, like me.

The photos today were taken with a Sony A6000 coupled with the excellent Sigma 19mm f/2.8 prime. This prime does not support the PDAF fast autofocus capability on the A6000, which is a bit of a shame, since it is great for getting those down and low wide angle shots like above. Sorry you're out of focus, Rob! I stink at sports photography, but I'm working to get better at it.
